EQUIP is a collaborative effort among RNs experienced in long term care, business professionals, software developers, e-learning developers, research analysts, and statisticians.

Founded in 1998, EQUIP began as an MDS analysis tool that was developed through various grants by researchers at the New York Association of Homes and Services for the Aging (NYAHSA), the New York affiliate of the national American Association of Homes and Services for the Aging (AAHSA) that represents not-for-profit providers nationwide. The motivation was to give long term care providers an evidence-based informatics tool to help them improve outcomes and quality of care consistent with our mission. In 1999, EQUIP became a program that was used nationally for nursing facilities to access the QI measures in an easy-to-use, readily available format. Over time, EQUIP grew rapidly based primarily on "word of mouth" from satisfied users. It expanded from a single tool to offering the many valuable products and services available today.
