Alzheimer’s Grant Awarded to Dr. Teigland and Staff In fiscal 2006, the Alzheimer’s Association funded a total of about $21 million in research initiatives. EQUIP Director of Health Informatics and Research, Dr. Christie Teigland, and her research team, was one of 96 investigators awarded funding through its annual grant competition. AHRQ interviewed Dr. Teigland to learn how she and her team of researchers, nurses and statistical programmers successfully developed the EQUIP risk assessment models that can identify residents most at risk for adverse outcomes. Software Leads To Better Care - Program created by state group now preventing injury in nursing homes nationwide
When the New York Association of Homes & Services for the Aging won a grant in 1996, the money went to develop a computer program intended to help prevent falls and bedsores.
Ten years later, the result of that work is a product being used at more than 400 nursing homes around the country. And the Albany-based association -- specifically, its for-profit arm, NYAHSA Services Inc. -- finds itself trying to market a successful computer product despite a background more experienced in lobbying and the nursing home trade.
